Armstrong’s Valley First Music in the Park opens its summer concert season at Memorial Park Friday with a performance by Vernon trio The Creeks.
In honour of National Aboriginal Day, which is on Saturday, bannock will be available at the concert, as well as treats provided by the Armstrong branch of Valley First Credit Union.
“Well maintained by the Armstrong Spallumcheen Parks and Recreation, Memorial Park is one of Armstrong’s most scenic spots with a swimming pool, children’s water park, playground equipment and lots of shade for people to come and relax all summer long,” said Armstrong-Spallumcheen chamber manager Patti Noonan. “Visitors to Music in the Park are encouraged to bring a blanket, chairs, snacks and beverages or even dinner. Relax, enjoy the fresh air and time with family and friends.”
Influenced by artists such as James Taylor, Crosby Stills and Nash, Neil Young, Phil Keaggy, and Bruce Cockburn, The Creeks are Dave Moore, Bob Oldfield and Tim Boulter, who all have a history of playing rock music from across the ages, in various bands, and in various countries.
With a common interest in good guitar music, all have been heavily exposed to the great singer songwriters and acoustic sounds of the ‘70s and use that music to influence their own roots and folk styles.
Hosted by the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce and Valley First, the Music in the Park series runs every Friday until Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
As well as presenting the series, Valley First is promoting hunger awareness through its Feed the Valley program each evening.
