Tremendous sounds of modern jazz will emanate from Knox United Church this weekend as two big bands come together.

The afternoon of music is being hosted by the Arrowsmith Big Band, which formed in 1975 by well-known swing trumpeter and music teacher Bill Cave. This band’s members are from Oceanside, Nanaimo, Port Alberni and Courtenay.

The guest band at the concert will be the Nanaimo Musicians Association Big Band, formed in 1967 by Vancouver Island University music instructor Bryan Stovell.

Together the bands have 30 musicians performing.

This is the second time the two groups have shared the stage, the first was a sell-out show at the Vancouver Island University theatre.

The concert this weekend happens Sunday, May 29 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 available from Flix ‘n’ Pix Video in Parksville and What’s Cooking in Qualicum Beach.
