Art exhibition takes viewers on cross-Canada road trip

Nanaimo painter Coni Long presents 'From East to West' at Art 10 Gallery

For the month of February Nanaimo artist Coni Long presents her new exhibition, From East to West, on the feature wall at Art 10 Gallery.

The show is a collection of paintings depicting her yearly cross-Canada road trip. Long said she particularly enjoys painting old buildings and vehicles, as it brings back memories.

As a child she used to spend weekends exploring abandoned barns and farm houses with her father.

“He often knew who lived in these places and he’d tell the story about why this place is abandoned and what happened to the families,” she said. “And going into these buildings I would imagine what it was like living there.”

WHAT’S ON … Opening reception for From East to West takes place at Art 10 Gallery, Nanaimo North Town Centre, on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.
