Art in the Garden continues to grow

Art in the Garden takes place on the Vernon property belonging to acclaimed landscape and wildlife painter Michael Jell.

Butterflies flutter around the daylilies, asters and phlox growing in Michael Jell’s backyard.

The scene is about to provide a colourful backdrop to the art that will be adorned in every corner of Jell’s garden.

A heralded landscape and wildlife painter, Jell is hosting his fourth Art in the Garden show and sale at his Vernon property and he has invited four other artists to join him.

“This will be our fourth show in the past five years. We’ve had all kinds of weather for it in the past, rain, wind and heat, so we’re prepared for anything,” said Jell, adding visitors from as far as Kelowna and Penticton have expressed interest in the show.

“After you spend a few hours in the garden, it’s very therapeutic… The work will be spread out through the gardens. There will be a variety of artworks from sculpture, pottery, as well as three different styles of painting.”

Joining Jell will be Commonage blacksmith/metal sculptor Doug Alcock, who will show some of his western-themed pieces and works in metal and glass he has co-cretaed with glass artist David Montpetit.

Painter Gary Whitley, whose studio is based in Cherryville, will show mostly florals and landscapes, while Vernon-based portrait and landscape painter Wendy Hart Penner is bringing some of her western-inspired works as well as still life, animal and farmyard scenes.

Also showing work is raku artist and painter David Walker of Revelstoke.

The Art in the Garden show and sale takes place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gardens at 1701 46th Ave. Call 250-307-4451 for more info.
