Local artists Dianne Devereux and Brenda Calhoun are excited to present a showing of their latest paintings in the peaceful setting of Brenda’s garden. Both Dianne and Brenda feature floral and outdoor themes in their work so a garden setting is ideal for showing their work.
Dianne Devereux, an award-winning artist, paints in watercolour and is fascinated by the luminosity and flow of the medium. She also enjoys collage, conte, acrylic and photography. For her, painting is a nonverbal way to communicate. It is a way to explore both the physical and spiritual world. She feels art is a passion that is never satisfied because the next painting holds the promise of success or failure. Her subject matter is varied – landscapes and seascapes, some flowers, as well as, people. She is striving to capture the magic of colour and emotion in her paintings. She says her artist mother, Dorothy Kevis, has been a big encouragement to her over the years.
Dianne is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Pearl Ellis Gallery. She has supported Ducks Unlimited by donating paintings for fundraisers.
Brenda Calhoun is an award-winning artist who delights in bringing life to her florals, still lifes and tranquil scenes through the medium of acrylics. For her, painting is an expression of the soul, and each painting is an expression of the subject translated through the spirit of the artist. Brenda’s florals and still life paintings depict the beauty and artistry in simple, everyday objects. She enjoys the challenge of achieving the translucent and ethereal look of flowers with paint, and will often include flowers in her still life paintings. Her use of strong light and shadow combined with bold acrylic colours bring life and excitement to her work. Yet, there is a strong sense of calm and tranquillity about her paintings.
Brenda is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. She is a founding member of the Originals Only group of artists, and also a member of the Comox Valley Art Gallery, the Comox Valley Community Arts Council, and she shows regularly at the Pearl Ellis Gallery and South Hollow Gallery.
