Artists and art-lovers, get ready! Art Battle returns to a new Chilliwack arena on April 15.

A dozen artists will go head to head in live competitive painting.

Easels are grouped together in the centre of the room, a stop clock is started, and so begins a frenzy of painting, flipping and splattering canvases while the crowd circulates around them.

The medium is acrylic paint and the tools are brushes and palette knives. No reference material is allowed in the venue.

At the end of each 20-minute round, guests vote for their favourite, and the winners go on to compete in the finale. All finished paintings are put up for silent auction at the end of the evening.

As the last Art Battle of the season in Chilliwack, presenting company Moda Events has added some special extras to the event.

Vita Bella will be serving beverages, The Shuffle Spot will be spinning tracks, and the audience will be met with some surprise participation.

“This event is for the young and old, artists and non-artists and everyone in between,” says organizer Zoe Howarth. “Who doesn’t love a little healthy competition?”

In addition the cash prize and the glory, the winner will also receive one month of gallery time to display their work in the Art House. They’ll also be invited to compete in the semi-final competition at The Reach in Abbotsford on May 13.

Experience the fast-paced talent of AB383 at The ArtHouse (#2-9360 Mill Street), a new art gallery in downtown Chilliwack.

Tickets are $20 general, $10 for students, available online at artbattle.com/ab383-chilliwack/
