Artists tackle local history

Ladysmith artists have showed off interiors and exteriors at two separate shows at the gallery this year. Now the focus has turned to Ladysmith’s historical buildings. In a show that opened on March 5, artists proudly displayed their perspectives on the testaments to our local history.Bryan Henderson, curator at the gallery, said they’d encouraged people to get a good collection of paintings and photographs of this area.“We are hoping they might be made into prints and we could sell them as smaller prints,” said Henderson.Henderson said there was a fairly good response to the show, noting some artists submitted a few, but would have liked to have seen a few more.“It looks pretty good,” said Henderson. There will also be some unframed sketches posted to the sketch board at the gallery. This is the first time the gallery has run a show on historical buildings.Henderson said they wanted to get the local arts community interested in arts in the town and promote the heritage of our downtown.“It’s really part of our whole effort to provide a changing theme and get people engaged in doing something a little different.”The show runs until the end of March at the Waterfront Gallery.
