Free improv show at Capitol

This Friday Port Alberni’s self proclaimed Improv Army is offering a one time only free showing of Whose Line is it Alberni.

Much like the TV show, this features unscripted comedy scenes from audience suggestions.

The show is rated for general audiences Friday January 20 starting at 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre on Argyle Street.

Calling all crafters

Port Alberni is celebrating 100 years of being a city.

On Saturday Aug. 4, artisans and crafters will have the opportunity to display and sell their work at Bob Dailey stadium from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Participants will be provided with an eight foot long table and chair.

Hillbilly fever hits Valley

Well known country and bluegrass musician, Gord McConnell and his band, Hillbilly Fever, are once again hosting the Alberni Opry at Char’s Landing Saturday Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

This fun evening will promise to provide you with music, dancing and laughter.

It’s an eclectic array of singers, fiddlers and accordion players. Tickets are $5 at the door, kids under 12 are free. Doors open at 6:30. Call 250-730-1636 for more info.

Words on fire at Char’s

Wednesday Jan. 25 at 7 p.m come join Clayquot readers – at Char’s Landing.

Suds coming to Alberni

Portal Players Dramatic Society’s 2012 musical production of Suds, the rocking 60’s musical soap opera opens on Friday Feb. 24 and runs until March 17.

This is a story about a young ingénue whose job in a 1960 laundry-mat becomes more interesting when she is visited by her guardian angels.

The show features classic songs like, Please Mr. Postman, You can’t hurry love, Respect and I know a Place to name a few.

All seats are $20 in advance and are available at the Rollin Art Centre, Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Working the West Coast

The Rollin Art Centre open’s it’s 2012 season with and exhibit with artist, Doug Harrison and his collection of watercolour and acrylics depicting local scenes of fishing boats, tug boats and the logging industry by artist.

Meet the artist at the Gallery on Saturday Dec. 14 from 1-3 p.m.

Cultural event at Char’s

Char’s Landing is hosting a free cultural evening for families.

Sponsored by Great Canadian Video Network. Char’s Landing is hosting a charity concert Saturday Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.

The program will feature tasnifs and instrumental music in the modes of Bayat-e Esfehan and Bayat-e Tork, with poetry by Rumi, Attar and other mystical poets.

Come and experience this wonderful evening for the entire family.

Throw the book at them

The Rollin Art Centre is accepting gently used books, DVD’s, CD’s, and puzzles for their annual book sale, which takes place on May 12, 2012.

The centre is not accepting National Geographic, Encyclopaedias, Reader’s Digest and textbooks.

Books can be dropped off at the Rollin Art Centre, inside, under the staircase in the wooden box.

This is one of the Community Arts Council’s biggest fundraisers.
