Visual artists, take note

The Rollin Art centre is now accepting applications from visual artists to submit an application to exhibit their work in the fine arts gallery during the 2013 calendar year.

Watercolour painting

Echo Centre will be offering a new class for beginners in watercolour painting, instructing complete beginners and those in need of a refresher.

Explore and learn the basic skills and techniques of watercolour painting in a relaxed environment. Eight sessions run Tuesday, Jan. 31 to March 20 from 1:30–3 p.m. Cost is $55. Supply list available at Echo Centre. Call 250-723-2181.

Artisans and crafters wanted

Port Alberni is celebrating 100 years of being a City.

On Saturday Aug. 4, artisans and crafters have the opportunity to display and sell their work at Bob Dailey stadium.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. You will be provided with an eight foot table and chair.

Watercolour painting

Portal Players Dramatic Society’s 2012 musical production of Suds, the rocking 60’s musical soap opera opens on Friday Feb. 24.

This is a story about a young ingénue whose job in a 1960 laundry-mat becomes more interesting when she is visited by her guardian angels.

The show features classic songs like, Please Mr. Postman, You can’t hurry love, Respect and I know a Place to name a few.

All seats are $20 in advance and are available at the Rollin Art Centre, Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Harrison’s work still on display

The Rollin Art Centre open’s it’s 2012 season with and exhibit with artist, Doug Harrison and his collection of watercolour and acrylics depicting local scenes of fishing boats, tug boats and the logging industry by artist.

The Rollin Art Centre is located at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Argyle Street, and is open Tuesday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free.

Persian music at Char’s

Char’s Landing will host a charity concert featuring Darya Persian Music Ensemble on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. Families are welcome for this free cultural event, sponsored by the Grat Canadian Video Network.

The program will feature tasnifs and instrumental music in the modes of Bayat-e Esfehan and Bayat-e Tork, with poetry by Rumi, Attar and other mystical poets.

Rollin needs your books

The Rollin Art Centre will be accepting gently used books, DVD’s, CD’s, and puzzles for their annual book sale.

The event happens on May 12.

Please no National Geographic, Encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest and textbooks. Drop books at the Rollin Art Centre, inside, under the staircase in the wooden box.

This is one of the Community Arts Council’s biggest fundraisers.
