Arts around Alberni: from wild to mild

This and that from here and there in Alberni's arts and entertainment scene.

Wild Observations is the current art exhibit at the Rollin Art Centre, running until Oct. 16. This exhibit showcases a unique exhibit of paper collage, by artist Debbie Goodman.

The pieces Goodman creates are composed entirely from coloured and patterned specialty paper, which come from many countries of origin.

Goodman is passionate about wildlife and the conservation and animal welfare, as one will see in this wonderful collection.

Meet the artist at the gallery this Saturday, Sept. 22 from 1–3 p.m. The Rollin Gallery is located at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Argyle Street and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mys-tea-ry lies in author event

The Rollin Art centre and two Alberni Valley-based authors will host a Mystery Tea and book signing on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 1–3 p.m. in the garden.

Join authors Joan Donaldson-Yarmey and Thelma Van Nice (SerendipiTEA) for an afternoon of hunting for clues in the garden and scrambling puzzles to win prizes. Tea and scones will be served along with discussions about their respective books.

Admission to the tea is free.

The Rollin Art Centre is wheelchair accessible.

Bazaar kicks off fall season

The West Coast |General Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Sept. 29th from 1–3 p.m.at Echo Centre.

There will be something for everyone: baking, knitting, books, plants, toys and dolls, a Christmas table and more.

Admission is free; however entry to the tea room costs $5. Everyone welcome.  All proceeds go to the hospital for equipment to assist in the care and comfort of patients.

Vancouver Island Opera (VIO) presents, Faust by Charles Gounod, at The Qualicum Civic Centre, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2:30 p.m.
