Arts around: Last week to view Sockeye art at Rollin

Book donations wanted at Rollin, memberships with the community arts council and more on this week's community art scene.

Salmon is the star of the current art exhibit at the Rollin Art Centre.

This unique art exhibit features actual rubbings of salmon and local fish, transferred to a silk screen and then painted onto canvas. The exhibit, titled Sockeye King, features artist Doug Blackwell.

Blackwell has taken his occupation and love of salmon and created works of art.

From movement of colours to scales, this art exhibit is currently running until Feb. 3.

Book donations

The Rollin Art Centre is currently accepting all gently used books for their annual book sale in May.

We are  grateful for all your books, but cannot take any textbooks, magazines, National Geographic, encyclopedias or Reader’s Digest. Please drop off donations (newer books only) at the Rollin Art Centre inside the main door just under the staircase in the big wooden box. This is one of the Community Arts Council’s biggest fundraisers.

Help arts council

It’s important to know that when you take out a membership with the Community Arts Council, you are helping to guarantee our future and allowing us to continue on with our mandate to “help advocacy for the arts, for arts organizations and those working in the arts.”

Membership costs allow us to help promote local artists and art in the Valley. We are celebrating our 52nd year advocating for art in our community, and would like to celebrate many more years but we can only do that with the help of annual memberships and patrons of the arts.

The cost is only $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $22 for a family.

As we are a non-profit organization we rely on the generous support of art patrons.

Please help support the Community Arts Council today so we can help support local artists tomorrow.

Call to artists

The Rollin Art Centre is now accepting applications to all visual artists and artist groups to submit an application to exhibit their work in our fine arts gallery during the 2018 calendar year.

Don’t miss this opportunity to have your own art exhibit or group exhibit. Application forms are available at the Rollin Art Centre or on our website.

The deadline is April 30.
