Arts around: New show, light celebration at Rollin

A Celebration of Light, McLean Mill Christmas market and more on the Alberni Arts scene.

“Present Images” is the title of the current Rollin Art Centre’s art exhibit. This spectacular display is by a group from the Alberni Valley, Wednesday Painters. This group of painters meet every Wednesday at Char’s Landing to hone their skills, learn new ones and gather with friends.

Join us in the gallery, Saturday, Nov. 22 from 1-3 pm, for a chance to meet these talented artists and enjoy some refreshments. The Alberni Valley Wednesday Painters exhibit will run until Dec. 20.

Celebration of Lights Nov. 29

Enjoy an evening of the global symbol of peace and hope—light—at the Rollin Art Centre, Sat. Nov. 29 from 4-8 p.m.

Enjoy an evening of wandering the gardens that will be filled with lanterns and luminaries that local children created along with Community Living.

Entertainment for the evening begins with Santa and Mrs. Claus, available for “Santa Selfies” from 4-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. ($2 minimum donation); from 4:15-4:45 p.m. the Capitol Wee Glee Singers, Capitol Glee Singers and the Sea Notes will perform; from 5-7 p.m. professional photos with Santa will be available for $5 each, and at 5 p.m. dancers from the Elite Dance Academy will perform.

To close out this magical evening starting at 7 p.m., Timbre! Choir will sing holiday favourites. Garden lights will remain on for the month of December, so please help fund this event by entering with a donation.

Mill Light-up approaches

Holidays are fast approaching and this year’s McLean Mill Christmas market will be back again with its Light-Up.

Yes, this wonderful light-up will take place for two weekends, Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 12-14. If you are interested in renting a table in one of the heritage buildings, for one weekend or two, there is still room. The cost is $80 for one weekend or $150 for both weekends.

Timbre! tickets now on sale

Be sure and get your tickets very soon for “Simply Christmas” Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2:30 pm at ADSS Theatre. This concert will feature the very talented Danielle Marcinek on the piano and will include a wonderful variety of Christmas carols and songs old and new.

Last year’s concert sold out, so get your tickets early.  Tickets on sale at the Rollin Art Centre, Echo Centre, Salmonberry’s and from choir members but may not be available at the door.

Seniors/adults – $15 and students and Children – $5.

Make spirits bright with Barkley Sounds Choir

The Barkley Sounds Choir and Phil’s Harmonics String Orchestra presents their annual Christmas Concert, Making Sprits Bright.Sunday Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m. at ADSS Theatre. Tickets are $10 and are available at Rollin Art centre (CASH ONLY).

2014 banners ready for sale

If you are one of the lucky ones to have painted a banner for 2013, they are available for purchase now at the Rollin Art Centre for $25. Located at the corner of 8th and Argyle, the gallery is open Tue. to Sat. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Magic Cottage open Nov. 22–23

With the chill in the air and snowflakes ready to fall, Christmas must be right around the corner. So that means it’s time again for the 7th Annual Magic Cottage Craft and Gift Sale. Their artisans and crafters showcase some of the best locally made creative wares, from traditional crafts to avant-garde designs, all snuggled up in a cozy cottage setting. The Magic Cottage will be open Sat., Nov. 22(10-6), Sun., Nov. 23(10-5). The Magic Cottage is located at 3945-4th Avenue, between Morton & Maitland, Port Alberni, BC. Rotary Arts District grant night event Nov. 28

Come out and help celebrate the Rotary Arts District and the 2015 Arts Grant recipient on Friday, November 28, 7:00 – 9:00 at the Capitol Theatre.  The evening will feature a number of local performers including:  Barclay Sound Choir, Erin Netzer and friends, PA Improv Troupe, Denis Olsen, Dan McMillan, Janet Deakin and the cast from Seussical performing a number from the upcoming theatre production.  This fun filled family event is free but you must pick up tickets from Echo Centre or Rollin Art Centre.
