A new exhibition opening at Fort Gallery next Tuesday was inspired by one of Suzanne Northcott’s antique silk kimonos.
The interdisciplinary artist, who has worked in everything from painting to video, drawing to installations presents her most recent show called Inside Stories at the Fort’s cooperative gallery.
She has created what she calls “an emergent world” where ideas and motifs from her past reappear in new ways.
“The caterpillar in its secret cocoon dissembles into a knowing goo before reordering to becoming the butterfly,” Northcott said. “Is there a moment when one thing becomes another or is it always a process? Stillness into movement, a thought becoming material, everything born from what comes before.”
Her show runs April 26 to May 15, at the gallery, 9048 Glover Rd. Northcott will be on hand for the opening reception on Friday, April 29, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Legend shares memories
Just up the street, at the Birthplace of B.C. Gallery is hosting another show featuring the creative (versus physical) accomplishments of hockey legend (King) Richard Brodeur.
His show, called My Hockey Memories, opens this weekend with the artist himself on hand to visit both Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The exhibit – which runs until May 15 – will include a series of new
paintings depicting his hockey memories, as well as some of his landscape pieces.
The gallery is located at 9054 Glover Rd. in Fort Langley.

Divas in concert
A Langley-born and raised opera singer will join two other Vancouver-area divas and their pianist for an evening
of opera, arias, and Broadway show songs.
Langley’s own mezzo-soprano Lisa-Dawn Markle is part of Belles Canto, a group who came together while studying opera at the University of B.C.
Now, the foursome who perform together across Canada and intentionally, is back at home.
They’ve performed as far away as China, Ireland, and the Czech Republic.
On Friday, they perform for the University Women’s Club of Vancouver at the Hycroft. Show at 7 p.m.
