April 22 kicks off B.C. Arts and Culture Week with celebrations of creativity and culture across the province. Shed the grey of winter and welcome spring as children, youth and adults share their artistic creations and performances, and celebrate the vitality and energy that arts and culture infuses into communities across BC.
B.C. Arts and Culture Week showcases the importance of arts and culture and the impact they have on our lives.
B.C. has a rich community of arts and culture and is home to internationally recognized artists of all disciplines. B.C.’s arts and culture sector employs over 63,000 people and the film industry alone generates $2.82 billion in our economy. Each year our museums, galleries, festivals and performances attract thousands of visitors from around the world.
The celebration reminds us that arts and culture bring the province’s cultural resources together and encourages all ages to learn about themselves, each other and the world we live in. Music, dance, books, theatre, media arts and visual arts touch the root of our souls and present us with possibility, discovery and freedom. Arts and culture teaches us who we are and who we want to be.
