Arts in brief: New show at Kariton Gallery, and more

The Abbotsford Arts Council is presenting a new showing at Kariton Gallery (2387 Ware St.) featuring Sheldon Grimshaw and Kathie Selinger.

The pair of local artists fill their pieces with layers and textures using oil and acrylic-based paints.

Starting today, the exhibition is open to the public and a special artists’ open house will take place on Feb. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. Both artists will be on hand to greet the public and answer questions regarding their work.

ACTORS WANTED

The University of The Fraser Valley Theatre Department will hold open auditions for the 16th annual Directors’ Theatre Festival on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in the theatre on the Chilliwack campus.

Local community performers, both male and female and between the ages of 18 and 70, are invited to attend.

The Directors’ Theatre Festival is a five-day, fringe-style, event showcasing some of the best young theatre talent in B.C. It will feature directors, performers and writers from UFV and other university and college theatre programs.

The Festival takes place April 27 to May 1 in the UFV Chilliwack theatre complex.

The Valley Concert Society is presenting Colin Fox (narrator), Susan Gilmour Bailey (soprano), and Michael Kim (piano) in a musical performance taking place Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way.
