The Lake Country ArtWalk invites the public to join in celebrating the 20th year of the arts festival this weekend.

The Lake Country ArtWalk invites the public to join in celebrating the 20th year of the arts festival this weekend.

The two-day festival —the largest of its kind in the B.C. Interior—  showcases original works of art and live performances created by visual and performing artists living in the Okanagan.

More than 300 artists of all media will be exhibiting more than 3,000 original works of art. The event plays host to more than 7,000 visitors.

Visitors will explore the 2013 theme of ArtWalk, It’s About Time, throughout the festival, in both art and activities, including a theme gallery and theatrical performance.  As part of the festival, Creekside Theatre will be hosting the highly anticipated production of Johnny Vallis: A Tribute to Buddy Holly, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Opening ceremonies take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in a celebration featuring special guests and birthday cake.

ArtWalk offers artist demonstrations, art talks, musical entertainment, and opportunities for all ages to participate in art making. Special 20th anniversary events include a Hawaiian style quilt show, an artist paint-off, a quick draw competition and auction, time-lapse photography, chalk art, and so much more.

ArtWalk began under the leadership of Jody Lafontaine at Holiday Park Resort in 1994. For the last 15 years, ArtWalk has taken place at the Lake Country Community Complex and has been organized entirely by a dedicated group of volunteers, with the support of the municipality of Lake Country and generous sponsors.

ArtWalk’s mandate is to support the artists of the Okanagan, to provide the latest and best artworks to view, buy and enjoy, and to provide a great family-friendly arts festival.

Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Lake Country Community Complex is located at 10241 Bottom Wood Lake Rd.

ArtWalk offers free parking with shuttle service from the Winfield Curling Club (9830 Bottom Wood Lake Rd.) to the ArtWalk site.

Admission is $2. Proceeds go to supporting the arts in the community.
