Life on the road is no stranger to Australian singer Liz Stringer.

She’s toured extensively in her home country, Canada, the United States and Europe.

Her latest single, Anyone, written when she was in Portland, was inspired by her travels, missing her friends. The video was created by Australian filmmaker Agostino Soldati.

Stringer released her album All The Bridges last month. She said the album doesn’t have a continuous theme running through it.

“I was thinking about the bigger picture and what I want to do with my life,” said Stringer. “It’s more psychological.”

She said she was influenced by musicians such as the Pretenders, Midnight Oil and Tom Petty.

Another song on the album, Live on Love, discusses themes such as living in a capitalist world, said Stringer.

“People are being told to buy stuff … people just end up being a slave to money and not following their gut,” she said. “There is this dangling carrot and unless you are the one per cent you never get there.”

She released her first album Soon in 2006 and her album Warm in the Darkness, released in 2012, was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize and earned two Australian Age EG nominations for best female artist and best artist.

Stringer is currently promoting her latest album on a cross-Canada tour. During the tour, she is doing a combination of solo-acoustic performances and shows with a band.

Stringer performs during the free Concerts in the Parks series, presented by the City of Nanaimo, Aug. 8 at the Bowen Park amphitheatre from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

The Nanaimo performance will include acoustic renditions of her music. She said it allows her to get down to the roots of the song and that they still stand on their own in the stripped-down versions.

Stringer also performs at Gabriola’s Hive Emporium on Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 from Hive Emporium or call 250-325-1948.
