Matthew Hooton reads his novel,Deloume Road,at Vancouver Island University Monday (Oct. 29) as part of the Poets on Campus series.

A small Vancouver Island community where residents deal with losing loved ones during the Gulf War is the stage for Matthew Hooton’s first novel.

It explores the differences and connections between the Korean and English languages and losing a loved one to war.

Hooton reads from his work Monday (Oct. 29) from 5-6 p.m. in Bldg. 365 at the VIU campus. Admission is free.

Hooton has a bachelor of arts in creative writing from the University of Victoria and a master’s degree from Bath Spa University in England. His novel was awarded the inaugural Greene and Heaton Prize for best novel of the Bath Spa University masters in creative writing program in England. His visit is part of the Poets on Campus series.

The series continues with visits from John Barton and Yvonne Blomer on Nov. 26.
