Award-winning indie artist Christa Couture plays the Duncan Showroom April 7. On her new album Long Time Leaving Couture explores themes of breaking up, a welcome reprieve from past albums’ even heavier subject matter of dealing with life-threatening illness and the loss of one’s children.
Couture won the 2008 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Folk Acoustic Album and has become known for turning tragedy into musical triumph.
The collection seems effortlessly cohesive as Christa’s expansive vocals and singular writing style provide the foundation for an array of arrangements — ranging from the sprightly, minimalist Aux Oiseaux to the twangy Alone in This. The latter is Christa’s Nashville breakup song, in honour of the city where the album was recorded.
Couture will be joined by special guest Chris Ho.
Her show takes place 8 p.m. at the Duncan Showroom at 131 Station St. Tickets are $17 door or $15 advance by calling 250-748-7246 or by visiting www.showroomproductions.ca
