Bad trailer could be good for career

Abbotsford actress Avery Konrad is hoping a movie trailer will turn into a feature film, thanks to an online contest.

A local actress is hoping the trailer for a yet-to-be-made film might lead her on to bigger and better things.

Abbotsford’s Avery Konrad is one of two featured performers in the trailer Bad, part of an online, cross-Canada movie competition put on by Cinecoup.

Local filmmakers created a two-minute trailer based on one of their own movie ideas. Entries are featured on the Cinecoup website and voted on via the website, Facebook or Twitter. More than 500 submissions were received. Organizers narrowed it down to the top 100, then voters shortened the list to the top 60, then 40. Bad has made it to the top 40.

The top 15 were announced on Wednesday – Bad is still in the running.

Now organizers of the event will decide which trailers make the top 10, which go to a film market in Cannes.

The final winner receives up to $1 million to make the movie plus guaranteed distribution.

For Konrad, being part of a film could be a huge step forward in her career.

“I’ve always been performing,” said Konrad.

She’s already done several television programs, including The Haunting Hour and Falling Skies.

But Bad could be the biggest thing she’s ever done.

Bad is a brother/sister story about struggling siblings who, in need of cash, slowly turn to crime, leading ultimately to drug smuggling and worse.

The trailer was shot in Vancouver and the surrounding area.

Konrad plays the sister while Matty Finochio, from Hamilton, plays the brother.

He was in Abbotsford last week, working on a new Hallmark movie called Garage Sale Mysteries, which just wrapped up filming in town.
