As a hospital worker, sterilizing equipment, Dwight Gray saw first-hand how important the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital was in people’s lives.

When he lost his mother three months ago, he experienced the care people receive as a family member.

He decided to use his production company, Big Bear Productions, and create Band Aide, a fundraiser for the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.

He reached out to Brenda Rositano, director of corporate relations for the foundation, and together they created the fundraiser.

Gray said everyone will eventually need the hospital services.

“My mom passed away last October and it’s my way of paying respect,” said Gray. “It’s just always in my heart to do something.”

Gray said he would love to sell out the concert to raise as much money for the foundation as possible. Gray is donating 50 per cent of the proceeds to the foundation.

“You don’t have to walk, run, bike or swim, just rock,” said Gray.

Band Aide, at Malaspina Theatre, features performances by Eveready and Partyrock. Guitar player Curtis Ledingham will perform with Partyrock as a special guest.

Gray, a member of Partyrock, said the evening will include classic 1960s and ’70s rock music.

Doors for the event open at 6:30 p.m. and the show runs from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available in advance at the hospital or from the hospital foundation’s offices at 102-1801 Bowen Rd. Tickets are limited, but if available they will also be at the door.
