Help a Pitt Meadows teen get closer to being crowned Miss World Canada by donating to a good cause.

Jessica Ferreira, a second-year psychology major at Simon Fraser University, is currently competing against 32 women from across the country for the 2011 title.

Ten per cent of Ferreira’s score will be based on how much she can fundraise.

She is currently one of the pageant’s top fundraisers and would like to hold on to that spot.

“The pageant’s motto is beauty with a purpose and they put a lot of emphasis on philanthropy and charity work rather than you have to be a certain height or weight,” says Ferreira, who has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 and is nearly half way to reaching it.

Ferreira competed in two teen versions of the pageant in 2008 and 2006 and adds that both those contests have definitely prepared her for competing on a larger stage.

The pageant will be held on May 19 at the River Rock Casino in Richmond.
