Being mindful better for health

Salmon Arm residents will be able to have their lunch while learning how to focus better, reduce stress, and lower blood pressure

Salmon Arm residents will be able to have their lunch while learning how to focus better, reduce stress, and lower blood pressure, during a series of talks that will be starting later this month.

Madeleine Eames, clinical counsellor and yoga teacher, will host the sessions, which will focus on mindfulness.

“It’s about being aware of yourself in the present moment without judgement,” said Eames.

She says mindfulness is great for dealing with anxiety, grief, fear and chronic illnesses.

“Mindfulness makes the difference in reacting to life rather than responding to it,” said Eames.

Anyone coping with illness, stress, or just looking for a better quality of life, is welcome to join the discussion. The first talk in the series, an introduction to mindfulness, takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at the Maple Tree Medical Clinic, 1181 Sixth Ave. NE.
