The seven piece roots and blues band Bessie and The Back Eddies will heat up the stage for a masquerade party at the Rossland Miners’ Hall on Saturday, Oct. 27.

This old school R&B show band brings style and class mixed in with a bit of mischief to the stage by the elegantly powerful vocal stylings of Bessie Wapp and a dynamic three piece horn section and an all acoustic rhythm section.

Bessie and The Back Eddies deliver a performance that goes from the swing of the big band sound and the grooviness of soulful R&B to the sass of burlesque classics and the raunch of down home blues, with a repertoire that dips into the songbooks of Ruth Brown, Etta James, Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, and Nina Simone.

Bessie and the Back Eddies received a Kootenay Music Award for best Blues and Roots music and their eclectic arrangements showcase all aspects of the band making every performance unique and entertaining.

There will be a lively dance floor and prizes for best costume at this Halloween bash hosted by the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC).

Tickets are $20 and include a 2013 membership for the RCAC (regular membership cost is $10 per season). This year the RCAC member benefits include $2 off RCAC Performance Series shows, $2 off Gold Fever Follies admissions, discounts on food at Gabriella’s Restaurant on performance nights and a free coffee at Cafe Books when two books are purchased at regular price.

Membership sales are important to the RCAC as memberships demonstrate support to RCAC’s activities and help the RCAC apply for grants (through demonstrated support).

Tickets are available in advance at Out of The Cellar, Columbia Avenue Rossland. Membership cards will be given out at the performance.
