Travel through winter and summer, from the Antarctic to Arctic, Canada to the Tibetan plateau, with the ‘Best of the Fest’ Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival tour — coming to the Timberline Theatre tonight beginning at 7 p.m.
Strathcona Wilderness Institute, a non-profit Society, is hosting the ‘Best of the Fest’ Tour to support its work in Strathcona Park. SWI operates the two information centres in the Park, as well as offering summer programs, nature walks and hikes.
The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival is the best outdoor film festival of the spring season. The ten short films chosen by SWI for the Tour evening include North American Premieres and Festival Favourites.
In “Arctic AIR” two brothers head to Greenland for an adventure of ski mountaineering, ice climbing and speed flying. “An Education” follows a father and daughter to Antarctica. “River of Eden” shows how Fijians turned to tourism to fund a conservation area that protects one of the most beautiful rivers on Earth. In “Force” a climber’s passion evolves into creative expression in one of our planet’s most powerful landscapes. The mountain biker in “Gone Tomorrow” experiences ‘complete deceleration’ in remote Mustang. “Stikine” features the ‘Everest of whitewater’: the Grand Canyon of the Stikine River.
