Can you spare a toonie for an evening of live blues and jazz?
What a deal!
How about three nights in a row? The annual Campbell River Mirror Charity Jazz and Blues Weekend is rolling into Spirit Square July 14-16 with a great lineup of musicians, and a great chance to contribute to three local charities.
On Thursday, July 14, we present the slide guitar blues of the Jesse Roper Band. If you’ve never heard of Jesse, the Times Colonist calls him ‘a barnburner’ and a ‘stand alone highlight’ performer, so be prepared! Our charity on this night is Campbell River Special Olympics.
Friday evening delves deeply into swing, with the Company B Jazz Band, the ‘cat’s meow’ of the Vancouver jazz scene. Be prepared to dance! Our charity is the Campbell River Syrian Refugee Support Committee.
Saturday evening caps the weekend with the RCA recording artists – and very danceable – Uncle Wiggly’s Hot Shoes Blues Band. These guys have had Victoria hopping for years. Our charity is the Campbell River and North Island Transition Society. Why stay at home? Come and join us on one or all of these terrific concerts!
Bring your lawn chair. Bring the kids.
Metchosin’s Jesse Roper will kick off the Campbell River Mirror Charity Jazz & Blues Festival next Thursday. The emerging blues artist blazes his own path while staying connected to the vintage authenticity of the blues. Read all about him in next Wednesday’s Mirror, then come out and listen Thursday, followed by two more great jazz and blues acts Company B Jazz Band (inset) and Uncle Wiggly’s Hot Shoes Blues B. All three concerts will benefit local charities.
