The Georgia Strait Jazz Society is offering a rare glimpse into the future of homegrown jazz on Thursday at the Avalanche.
This week, Greg Bush presents his young prodigies from our local hotbed of young talent – the Vancouver Island University jazz studies program.
The VIU Big Band, directed by Bush (a professor of music at VIU), comprises some of the finest students from the program.
“We’re excited to be performing at the Avalanche on Thursday, Feb. 19,” said Bush in a recent interview. “We’ll be featuring a program of music from the libraries of Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Oliver Nelson. The band will also perform some of my own compositions, and perhaps even more special – the Comox Valley’s own Troy Jakubiec. This is big band music at its best!”
Show time is 7:30. Attendance is $10 for members, $12 for non-members. FMI visit www.georgiastraightjazz.com
