A Quartet of talented, young musicians from Montreal will perform in their progressive Celtic and bluegrass-style at the Acoustic Cafe this Friday, Feb. 7.
Members of The Bombadils met at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in Montreal where they all studied jazz or classical music. Anh Phung, who plays Irish whistles and flute, has been named the Galaxie Rising Star twice and has also taken first place in the Canadian Music Competition. Sarah Frank plays fiddle and sings with the group. She has performed and studied with music greats like Peter Yarrow, Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas.
Luke Fraser, who hails from Nova Scotia, plays guitar, mandolin and lead vocals and has been a shining light in the Maritime music scene. Upright bass player Evan Stewart has performed at the Montreal Jazz festival and has shared the stage with a number of renowned musicians.
The Bombadils plays a combination of traditional and original music, both instrumentals and vocals, and they sing in English and French.
The group has been performing regularly throughout Quebec at pubs, cafes, dances, weddings and concerts and they released their debut album Fill Your Boots! in 2012. They are currently on tour in Alberta and are only making a couple of stops on the Island before heading down to the United States for more shows.
They will perform at the Acoustic Cafe held at the Rotary House in Qualicum Beach Feb. 7. The show begins at 7:30 p.m., the first half is open stage and The Bombadils will play after intermission. Tickets are $5 at the Vintage Candy Shop on Second Avenue in Qualicum Beach. Youth are free. The Rotary House is located at 211 Fern Rd. West, at the corner of Beach Road.
