Blue Moon Marquee kicks off Lazy Mike’s House of Music in Whiskey Creek

Blues band has been touring Canada for the last three years

Lazy Mike’s House of Music  is kicking off their fall season with the Blue Moon Marquee live in concert Thursday, Sept. 24.

According to a news release issued by House of Music, Blue Moon Marquee is “a hollerin’ blues band that originally stems from the Alberta dusty hoodoos and Rocky Mountains.”

A.W. Cardinal (vocals andguitar) and Jasmine Colette (bass, drums, vocals) write and perform original compositions influenced by early blues, stomp jazz and minor swing such as Lonnie Johnson, Skip James, Charley Patton, Howlin’ Wolf, Bill Jennings, Big Bill Broonzy and Django Riendhart to name a few.

After living and performing in Montreal and New York City, and being immersed in the jazz and blues scene cutting his teeth, Cardinal decided it was time to head home to the Rocky Mountains and bought a Greyhound ticket as long as he is tall; back to the great Canadian west to record the album Stainless Steel Heart.

There, in the winter of 2012, Cardinal met Colette, a hoodoo lady who has toured the bulk of North America over the last six years as a bassist, singer and a hoop dancer, performing with the likes of Paul Pigat, Bill Bourne, Andrew Loog Oldham, Tanya Tagaq, David Gogo, Simon Kendall, Madagascar Slim and Wyckam Porteous.

Blue Moon Marquee have perfected a live style of playing, a duo that sounds like a full band.

They have been touring Canada for the last three years, have played Vancouver Jazz Fest three years in a row, Victoria Jazz fest the last two years and will be performing at the Victoria Blues bash this year.

Doors to the House of Music open at 6:30 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 available at Cranky Dog Music in Parksville and House of Music located at the corner of Highway 4 and Clarke Road, south of Whiskey Creek.
