Cowichan Valley author and pastor Rick Dewhurst’s new book is a departure from other works of fiction he has published over the last 16 years. Confessions of a Charismatic Christian is memoir, telling the story of his own life.

Dewhurst is a long-time Duncan resident, having moved from his job as sports editor at the Cowichan News Leader to become the pastor of City Gate Church in 1995.

The focus of his new book, however, are “spiritual highlights of his 40-year journey”.

“The Charismatic Movement came and went. Rick Dewhurst experienced most of it, dating back to 1980,” reads the book jacket. “From John Wimber’s Vineyard Church in Anaheim, to the Kansas City prophets, to Rick Joyner’s MorningStar Ministries, to the Toronto Blessing, he was there to see it all.”

The Cowichan Performing Arts Centre has online concerts on the roster.

On Friday, June 11 starting at 7:30 p.m. you can pick up tickets for a minimum donation of $10 to enjoy Jared Popma in concert.

“Jared Popma’s thrilling concert will feature a full band backing him up, including a tap dancer that adds rhythmic variety to his heartfelt original songs of love, as well as crunchy covers of songs by artists such as Vulfpeck and Vance Joy,” says promotion for the event.

Popma is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who was born in the Cowichan Valley. He’s recently completed his first year of Jazz Studies at Vancouver Island University. He’ll be performing with friends Drake Shoemaker (bass), Ryan Bennet (drums) and Jamie Johnstone (tap).

Up next is the return of Cabin Fever “a dynamic group of five Cowichan Region-based artists whose wholly original tunes are full of heart and energy” and whose “30-minute set will leave you cheering with joy”, promises a write-up on the CPAC website.

The band includes Thomas Kuecks (guitar, flute, and vocals), James Kuecks (guitar and vocals), John Ivison (guitar and vocals), David Lane (keyboards) and Rod Gray (bass).

Once you buy tickets, you’ll have 48 hours to access the concert(s). To get tickets to either show visit www. cowichanpac.ca/
