This holiday weekend, enliven your afternoons with local bluegrass and oldtime band Backporch Banjo.
BackPorch is playing two shows: Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Zocalo Café — an all ages, licensed venue with a great menu — and Monday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at Cumberland’s Empire Days.
Ready for a festival-packed summer, BackPorch Banjo features a fresh, harmony-rich sound featuring Deep Bay fiddler Ted Granger and Qualicum’s Linda Thorburn on banjo, as well as locals Bob Slater on guitar, banjo and vocals, and Kazimea Sokil on mandolin, banjo and vocals.
The band’s repertoire ranges from hard-driving bluegrass to foot-stomping old time with an occasional ballad and original song thrown in. Kids love this music, too.
