BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — The Pearl Theater offers food for mind, body, and spirit with two separate events in celebration of Earth Day this weekend.
On April 20 at 7 p.m., a film festival features The Story of Stuff by Anne Leonard and I Am, featuring comedy director Tom Shadyac.
The Story of Stuff is a fast-paced 20-minute fact-filled look at how all the stuff in our lives affects communities here and abroad. It teaches, provoking laughter and promoting change.
The second film, I Am, is an entertaining and provocative look at the interconnectivity of all life. It offers intriguing solutions to the challenges and inspiration from scientists and luminaries including archbishop Desmond Tutu, historian Howard Zinn and philosopher Noam Chomsky. It is hosted with great humor by Tom Shadyac, who directed Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Bruce Almighty. Tickets are $5 at the door.
On April 21 at 7 p.m., the Pearl hosts the Earth Day dance, which will feature multicultural music and dances. These dances are a simple, fun, active celebration of the variety of cultures on our planet. No partners are needed. Everyone dances with everyone. Families are welcome. Anyone who can walk can enjoy this kind of dancing. Lots of laughter and an immediate sense of community rise naturally from these dances of the common folk.
Several traditional dances will be taught and then there will be great music for just shaking it loose. Traditional dances will be taught and called by Victoria Thompson, who taught multicultural dancing for three years at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Tickets are $5 at the door.
The Pearl Theater is located at 7160 Ash Street in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. For more information, call 208-304-0866 or visit www.the-pearl-theater.com.
