You’re invited to celebrate the arts with the Boom Booms on their return trip from Brazil, with special guests Tintown and Pleena.

They will help to wrap up Elevate the Arts events May 5. Fashions, decor and ambiance will be supplied by the Sew Sisters Artist Guild.

The Boom Booms are a six-piece Latin-soul-funk-rock-reggae band, forged from friendships born on the school yards, soccer fields, cafe patios and eventually bars of East Vancouver.

They make music that makes people want to dance — or “get up and love somebody,” as lead singer and guitarist Aaron Nazrul calls it.

Whether breaking into song and dance on the streets of Paris, storming stages with Congolese musicians in Brussels, playing to thousands at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival or serenading abuelitas in South America, the charming sextet is able to reach across cultural barriers and connect with people of all stripes, on levels equally rhythmic and emotional.

They have toured extensively in B.C., Mexico and most recently in Brazil. They were clearly the people’s favorite at last year’s Big Time Out.

The Boom Booms will help to wrap up Elevate the Arts on May 5 at the Bridge Lounge. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. and the show starts at 10.

Tickets are available at Bop City, Polka Dot Pants in Cumberland or by phone at 250-336-0303 and online at https://store.cumberlandvillageworks.com.
