Borders open to dance

No Borders Group Dance Challenge on Saturday at the Surrey Arts Centre.

Dance groups from across B.C. that have been awarded a first place position in their respective local dance festivals will compete for cash prizes during the No Borders Group Dance Challenge on Saturday at the Surrey Arts Centre.

On May 14, see dancers from ages 10 to 20 perform in the categories of classical ballet, modern, contemporary, international, jazz, lyrical, hip hop/street dance, tap, stage, song and dance and acro.

The sessions are:

• 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: Junior (ages 10 to 12), plus the international category;
• 1:15-4:15 p.m.: Intermediate (ages 13 to 15);

• 4:30-6:00 p.m.: Senior (ages 16 to 20).

The top ten groups will then compete at the finals at 7:30 p.m., followed by the awards program.

Morning and afternoon sessions are $5 (includes admission to the finals and honour awards.) Admission to just the awards is $2.

The event is organized by the Surrey Festival of Dance Society.
