The next 1st Tuesday fundraiser event at the Mex Pub on March 1, features guest performers Tammy Fassaert and Clare Brett in support of the BCSPCA.
Both of these entertainers have enjoyed successful international music careers and now make their home in the Comox Valley.
Clare Brett is known across Canada and around the world as a multilingual, multi-style singer and musician. Her unique combination of Celtic, country, Cajun, folk, blues and jazz, create a “magic web of music” adored by audiences everywhere. Brett has released an impressive 11 albums, received two Juno nominations, been nominated for Pacific Music Industry Children’s Performer of the Year and named one of the top three recording artists for children in Canada by Vicky Gabereau and Jürgen Gothe of CBC Radio and the Vancouver Sun.
Tammy Fassaert is internationally esteemed for her powerful, passionate, unadorned singing style, in the bluegrass, roots, and old country genres.
Her soaring voice captivates listeners with compelling turns of tempest and tenderness, delicacy and drive. She adds texture and variety to her lively shows with versatile guitar accompaniment that can be rhythmic and punchy, or melodic and pretty. Tammy has also appeared on stages throughout North America, Europe and Asia singing and playing traditional and contemporary bluegrass and roots music.
She has also earned a reputation in bluegrass circles for her instrumental contributions as a stand-up bass player and guitarist, having the technical expertise, timing, and attack required for the repertoire, and the confidence to thoroughly enjoy it.
This month the proceeds will support the BCSPCA Comox Valley & District Branch.
“Not only is the SPCA a very effective animal advocate at the legislative level (especially for livestock), it also performs large-scale rescue operations, and needs support for its on-site housing facilities for homeless animals,” said Fassaert
For those who would like to show their support through donations of “gifts in kind”, a wish list of items can be found on the website at bit.ly/1oFXZKf and dropped off at their location at 1668 Ryan Road East Comox, B.C.
The evening starts at 7:30 p.m. with an opening set by 1st Tuesday organizers Judy and Bruce Wing, joined by local violinist Blaine Dunaway. The event is sponsored by the Mex Pub, which allows 100 per cent of the proceeds at the door to go to charity, provides the venue on a continual basis, and an honorarium for featured performers.
