Local voice and piano students wishing to continue their education can now apply for the Elizabeth Scott Vocal Choral Bursary.

The bursary is awarded each year to a promising vocalist or pianist who wishes to continue their music education in a post-secondary situation for at least one semester.

The award is to be used within two years of its obtainment and is geared for students in the North Okanagan or Shuswap areas.

“A number of the previous winners have now completed bachelor and master’s degrees and are honing their talents and gaining more experience in Canada and the U.S.,” said bursary committee member Catherine Dawson. “Opera has been the first choice of several of them, but the award is by no means limited to that. One winner specializes in renaissance ad modern music.”

Two letters of reference are required from the applicant’s current or past teachers to apply for the bursary.

“Time is of the essence for those who are nearing the end of this year’s studies in school or post secondary institutions,” said Dawson. “The committee members, including Elizabeth Scott, look forward to receiving applications from a new group of young talent.”
