Ladysmith parents do not need to worry about home-bound kids declaring ‘I’m boooooooored’ this summer.
Carmen Leed, who is program co-ordinator for kids age 6-12, and Danielle Eastick, program co-ordinator for youth, have plenty planned.
The Adventure Zone Summer Daycamps, offer a fun, jam-packed schedule, said Leed, with kids playing at Transfer Beach from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Each week is a different theme,” said Leed.
The water games and waterpark are a big draw for the young kids, said Leed.
The kids will also be helping paint a mural at the community centre.
Leed said this year they will be making sure parents know to send lifejackets with kids for the days they are playing in the ocean.
The adventure camps cost $99 for a full week and run Monday to Friday from July 4 to August 26.
The cost is less for families with a leisure access pass through the Frank Jameson Community Centre.
There are a number of options for teens in Ladysmith as well. For July and August, teens will be taking over Transfer Beach on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Eastick said they will be hosting special events, outdoor games, sports, music and more. The Rec Room at Frank Jameson Community Centre will also be open Friday nights from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There are also a number of day trip adventures, including rock climbing, Imax in Victoria, Wild Play rope course, paintball, Tofino surf trip and many others.
Eastick encourages teens to sign up early because if there is not enough interest, the trip will be cancelled.
Students wanting to reduce the cost of the day trips can do so by volunteering at the Adventure Zone camps. Eastick said she is also willing to help teens plan fundraising events to cover costs.
Eastick said the paintball trip is very popular amongst the teens. This year, the bike trip to Mount Washington is gathering a lot of interest.
There are also several aquatic courses during the summer that can get students on the path towards being a lifeguard.
