The gates to the annual Canada Day Children’s Festival open at 9:45 a.m. on July 1 at the Salmon Arm Fairgrounds.

There will be  free activities, including a bouncy house and activities run by a number of local organizations.  There will also be several 50-cent carnival-style games. Every child gets one ticket for the games  on entering the festival and, if they’re wearing red, they’ll get a second one, says organizer Karen Bubola. Tickets won at games can be used on smaller prizes, or saved up for a bigger, six-ticket maximum prize.

Festival assistant Hayley Sims says the free activities are shaping up well for children of all ages. For the older kids, Meikle Studios will set up a paint catapult.

Local 4-H clubs will set up a petting zoo in the goat barn so children can meet farm animals.

There will be entertainment as well, with children’s entertainer Uncle Chris returning along with Just For Kicks dancers.

Thanks to generous businesses in Salmon Arm and area, the silent auction has more than doubled in size this year. Auction items include Friday-night passes for Roots and Blues, flex passes for the Silverbacks, movie and swim passes, tickets for the new Revelstoke pipe coaster, an and more.

Volunteers are still in short supply. If you can help cover a two-hour shift, email info@sachildrensfest.com or call Hayley Sims at 250-833-0164 ext. 117.
