The Langley Arts Council in collaboration with the Township of Langley is delighted to announce that our local artists and performers will be augmented by children’s writers and performers from further afield this year.
Writer of stories, singer of songs, poet and educator, Robert “Max Tell†Stelmach, who was honoured with Writer International Network’s Distinguished Author and Artist Award, will join us at noon to perform with any of the children who are in the Park at that time until 12:45 pm. In 2014, three of his songs were shortlisted in international competitions, and his poem “The Kid Who Hid His Head in a Box†won second prize in the Royal City Literary Arts Society’s, WriteOn Contest. His song “Cat in My Hoody†won first place in Lyric Writing for Children in The Great American Songwriting Contest in 2012. MaxTell is a popular and lively performer, and will be a real treat for the kids!
Included in the Arts Council events for the day is their own Elizabeth Anderson, who is a renowned children’s art teacher whose delightful exercises aimed at introducing children to the wide world of the arts are perennially popular with the lively set. She will be with us most of the afternoon, but get there before 2pm to be sure of getting a seat in her group!
Marion Buechart will be performing her sweet and summery local folk and blues bits during the afternoon as well, and “Drumfoot†Duckett will be hosting an open drumming circle session at 11am. All through the day, a variety of well-known local artists will be demonstrating their art forms, ranging from painting and drawing to whimsical houses and smartphone digital photography.
The holiday will wrap up with a reading by J.A. Williams from The Coventry Ghosts, a children’s story about the haunting of a nearby Coffee Shop and Bistro, and a nonsense poetry session with Leah Murray filled with verbal rhythms and brain-twisting wordage from the Jabberwocky to Shel Silversteins entertaining takes on the Cracks in the Sidewalks.
Come out and join the LAC at the LEC for some summer fun.
