The Abbey Studio in Cumberland will host two stunningly talented Canadian songstresses this Friday night, Feb. 26: Raine Hamilton and Shauna Janz.
Winnipeg-based prairie musician Raine Hamilton takes the stage with humour and strength. Imagine a cross between a shorter, more musical Tina Fey, and a shorter, funnier Joni Mitchell.
Hamilton melds her love of the violin into the singer-songwriter genre, writing for violin, guitar and voice.
Be prepared to be transported to a deeply honest place. Hamilton’s clear voice carries you there, bravely cutting through to the heart. There, in the rough and beautiful places, she finds her songs, ringing with courageous transformation, rich with inventive melody, and imbued with sage lyrics; a witching hour walk through universal love, trust and joy.
Joining Hamilton for this special double bill is Victoria-based singer-songwriter Shauna Janz. Her indie-folk sounds are described as “lyrical, soulful, warm” and “stunning and memorable; a unique voice that combines folk with soul”.
Audiences can expect fascinating guitar tunings, haunting finger-picking melodies, punctuated by driving rhythms, and set amongst both ethereal soprano sounds and strong spirited vocals.
Touring as a double bill, each with their own sets and songs, this pair is a delight.
Both reach into the rough and beautiful places, drawing from the transformation that comes from healing and growth. And at the same time, they are also so much fun!
