Cannafest will be back next year and from the looks of things it’ll be even bigger and better. The 2016 line-up was announced on Thursday at a Cannafest Thanks You party at James Donaldson Park.

The evening featured a performance from Grand Forks’ own Mad Dog 20/20. The event also featured free burgers and fries as well as the announcement of the (unofficial) line-up for next year’s event.

“It’s kind of a thank you to anyone who came and volunteered back in August for CannaFest,” said organizer Chuck Varabioff, who was back in Grand Forks for the event. “Without the volunteers I couldn’t have had the success I did. This was a way to give back.”

In between songs, Mad Dog 20/20 announced the bands for 2016 which include Chilliwack, Toronto, Sass Jordan, Honeymoon Suite, the return of Headpins, and Doug and Slugs, although without lead singer Doug Bennett, who sadly passed away in 2004. Cannafest 2016 will take place on Aug. 5 and 6.

“The line-up’s incredible,” said Varabioff. “The bands are all looking forward to coming. They heard what a success this year was and they’re all looking forward to it.”

The official announcement will take place on Oct. 1, which is also the day when advance tickets are available. For more information and/or advance tickets visit cannafest.ca. Early bird tickets will also be available at the Source in Grand Forks.
