Car show rides back to Haney

The 17th Annual Classic Antique Car Show will take place on Sunday, Aug. 14 at R.J. Haney Heritage Village

The 17th Annual Classic Antique Car Show will take place on Sunday, Aug. 14 at R.J. Haney Heritage Village, a favourite among car collectors and spectators from far and wide.

The show features more than 100 classic and antique automobiles on display throughout the village.

“Everyone’s welcome to participate,” says Susan Mackie, Haney general manager. “If you are interested in displaying your vehicle, free registration is from 8 to 10 a.m.”

Registered cars and trucks will receive a commemorative car show ribbon to display and have the opportunity to win in the “People’s Choice Awards.”

Attendees are invited to pick up a ballot in the museum to vote for their favorite vehicles in this category, which includes: antique pre 1916; vintage pre 1942; American stock only to 1969; American stock only 1970 and up; modified (hot rods and custom) and foreign. First and second place ribbons will be awarded in each class. People’s balloting will close at 1 p.m. with ribbons being awarded at 1:30.

Entertainment will be provided by the Roundhouse Jazz Band.

“Picture yourself walking down Bourbon Street in old New Orleans, swinging to the happy sounds of Dixieland,” says Mackie. “That is what the Roundhouse Jazz Band loves to play.”

The band is comprised of Jim Johnson on piano, Gord Waters on trombone, Sandy Cameron on clarinet and sax, Greg Sumner on bass/cornet and John Hansen on banjo.

“They promise to lift your spirits and do their best to bring that little bit of nostalgia of times gone by with the sounds of Jazz from the 1920s,” adds Mackie.

Green Room, a newly formed duo of Peter Clark and Elaine Holmes will also entertain.

“Elaine’s vocal power and range, combined with Peter’s soft rock blend, create a smooth sound sure to keep the car crowd singing and dancing along,” Mackie says.

Start the day at the outdoor kitchen with a delicious pioneer pancake breakfast. Enjoy a barbecue lunch with all the fixings. Marjorie’s Tea Room will be serving a lunch special.
