Cascadia Wind Ensemble presents Remembrance concert

Performance takes place Sunday, Nov. 6 in Abbotsford

Cascadia Wind Ensemble presents its annual Remembrance Concert on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way).

The concert, Cascadia Remembers: Courage and Passion, features the ensemble along with special guests the Philomusica Chorus, bagpiper Jamie McGrath and violinist Solchan Kim.

The concert begins with a tribute to the armed forces and then moves to music reflective of the Remembrance Day theme.

Included will be a traditional Sunset ceremony, complete with Amazing Grace in a setting of bagpipes with concert band; the Last Post; and stirring anthems and hymns with chorus and band.

The second half of the concert celebrates the music of the war years, including the Bugle Call Rag, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Glenn Miller selections, and a musical sing-along to an arrangement of World War I songs.

This is the ensemble’s third annual Remembrance concert.

“For this concert I have selected glowing and sensitive versions of songs we know and love, music that raises our spirits, and music that helps us to remember our history as a nation,” says music director Shannon Goldsmith.

Tickets are $15 general and $10 for veterans, seniors and students. They are available online at cascadia-remembers.eventbrite.ca and at the door.
