In a frozen world, sisters Elsa and Anna embark on an adventure that leads them to discover the power of love among family and friends.
Their story was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen and retold by Disney as Frozen. Tempo Dance Academy is taking the tale and adding its own stamp on it with a musical, dance production of the tale Friday (Dec. 11).
For the young cast, the production is a culmination of years of dance training. All of the main dancers have performed in Tempo Dance shows before, but it’s the first time they are main cast members.
“It’s been about eight years of productions, but it’s the first time getting to be one of the leads. It’s really cool,” said Katie Brown, who plays Olaf.
Tatum Johnson, who plays Prince Hans, said one of the challenges for her was combining dancing, lip synching and acting together during the scenes.
The family-friendly production appeals to all ages, said Sarah Kielly, who plays Sven the reindeer.
“Everyone should come and enjoy the funny moments,” said Daniel Knapp, who plays Kristoff.
After the show, the cast will meet and greet audience members.
“I’m looking forward to all the smiling kids,” said Lucy Trepanier, who plays Elsa. “All ages should come – it’s not just a show for the kids.”
Trepanier said it’s a chance for kids to interact with the characters they’ve fallen in love with from the Disney movie.
“It’s going to be really great for the kids to see the characters in person,” said Megan Doyle, who plays Anna.
Frozen is Friday at 7 p.m. at the Port Theatre. Tickets are $15 and are available by calling 250-754-8550 or online at www.porttheatre.com.
