The Kelowna Actors Studio will be holding auditions for Billy Elliot, a musical scored by Elton John.
Auditions will take place Sunday, Feb. 12, 2016 at the Kelowna Actors Studio on Ellis St.
Based on the international smash-hit film and featuring a score by music legend Elton John, Billy Elliot is an astonishing theatrical experience that will stay with you forever.
Set in a northern English mining town, against the background of the 1984 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dream come true.
Characters:
BILLY ELLIOT – Reads 10-13 years old, no broken voice. Strong Ballet and Tap training essential. A boy who stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for dance. To him, dance is a way to feel whole and free himself from the problems of life. He finds himself stuck between appeasing his family and chasing his new found love.
MICHAEL – Reads 10-13 years old, no broken voice. Dance skills and tap. Billy’s carefree and fun-loving best friend. He lives in the realm of expressing oneself, goes so far as to commonly dress in women’s clothing. He gives Billy the confidence to chase his dream.
DEBBIE – Reads 9-12 years old. Daughter of Mrs. Wilkinson, Billy’s dance teacher. Outspoken, unconsciously funny, no-nonsense, possibly a bit of a bully, surly. Takes ballet class only because her mother is the teacher. Her childhood crush on Billy leads her to constantly discourage him. Requirements: Strong actor. Good ballet and tap.
BALLET SCHOOL GIRLS – Girls who read 8-12 years old on stage. Seeking dancers who sing, with tap and good ballet. Some girls may be required to do pointe work. Seeking a variety of sizes, shapes and types, with expressive character and lots of personality, not the traditional ballerina.
SMALL BOY/TALL BOY – Reads age 6-12 on stage. Acting roles – singing and dancing experience a bonus. They represent the rest of the boys in the village from classmates to boxing partners.
