Open Mic Nights in Castlegar are set to take centre stage once again.
With COVID-19 restrictions lifting and a successful Brain Injury Awareness Day event under his belt, SMG Endeavors’ Steve Gosselin is excited to launch the monthly event on July 24 at 7 p.m. at the Castlegar Library Amphitheatre.
The evening will include a feature act — original hard rock trio Toaster.
There will also be some great door prizes.
Gosselin says the event’s previous organizer, Jamie Kallin, had collected these prizes to have a one-year anniversary special event until the pandemic sidelined his plans. They include gift certificates from Bay Music in trail, Classic Pawn in downtown Castlegar, harmonicas, guitar strings, hand made soap and more.
“We’re really excited to reunite with this fantastic community and enjoy some great music from our fantastic local talents,” says Gosselin.
The mic is open to all ages, all skill levels and all art forms including spoken word, comedy, rap, rock n’roll, folk, country, etc. Participants get up to 15 minutes of stage time before the feature act takes the stage at 9 p.m.
Sign-up will be first come first serve upon entry.
Spectators are welcome and donations will be greatly appreciated to help cover event expenses and the feature act.
Gosselin is hoping to include a new feature professional performer every month moving forward.
Castlegar Open Mic Night will be held on the second to last Saturday of each month at the Library Amphitheatre until the season change moves the event indoors.
