The streets are now alive with the sounds of music thanks to a new program initiated by the Downtown Vernon Association.
A myriad of different local musicians can now be seen and heard performing in Vernon’s downtown core every Tuesday to Friday for Street Sounds, which runs through August.
“Live performances in front of various merchants in the area provide a great lunchtime atmosphere for everyone shopping working, and dining, and just walking by to hear some unique local sounds,” said Holly Schmidt, DVA events and marketing manager.
The musicians play many different styles and instruments, and single performers as well as performers with a guest, including many from other popular downtown events, are on the schedule, added Schmidt.
“Familiar names like Steve Stairs, Manfred Harter and Tanya Lipscomb have performed, and many more will be there to play for the public,” she said.
Those roaming around downtown Vernon today can catch Rory White, known for his popular open mics held at the former Portillo’s/Blenz coffee house downtown and at Armstrong’s Junction Café, on the 3000-block of 30th Avenue.
Vernon singer/songwriter Sherrie Erickson plays on the 3100-block Thursday, while Lawrence Bourgeois, aka Pingo, known for his Clown ‘n’ Country show, performs Friday on the 2900-block.
Our Kids Have Talent contestant Abby Gregori plays on the 3400-block next Tuesday, followed by Parks & Hustler at the Fruit Union Plaza Aug. 24, Dave Anthony on 3100-block Aug. 25 and Manfred Harter and guest on the 3200-block Aug. 26.
