Celebrate Earth Day with Rollin spring clean

On Saturday, April 22, those interested can help the Rollin Art Centre get ready for spring events.

What a better way to celebrate Earth day then to volunteer a few hours to help clean up the gardens at the Rollin Art Centre. We are looking for volunteers beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April, 22 to help get our community gardens ready for the many events that take place at the Rollin Art Centre, such as ADSS grad pictures, Teas on the Terrace, the Solstice Arts Festival, Days with the Arts, weddings and more. We need your help. Bring your garden tools and tell a friend. The Rollin Art Centre needs a spring clean-up with pruning, weeding, raking and general yard work. Thank you for your support.

ARTIST OPEN HOUSE

Invitation to all local artists; please join us at the Rollin Art Centre, outside terrace, for an afternoon to celebrate art. Meet other local artists, share ideas and bring any current artwork you would like to share. No formal speeches, just an afternoon of gathering. Sunday, June 25 from 1-4 p.m. Please RSVP by June 16 by calling the Rollin Art Centre at 250-724-3412.

CURRENT EXHIBIT

This is the last week to visit this amazing art exhibit with two very talented and unique stylized artists who are currently on display at the Rollin Art Centre. Rob Liboiron, an artist who dabbles in many mediums, is showcasing some of his carvings in soapstone, wood, along with some pen and ink and oil paintings. Klaus Joehle, a mosaic artist, brings you right into a European café with his incredible collection wall hangings, floor inlays, backsplash mounts and much more. This exhibit runs until April 28.

BOOKS NEEDED

Only a few weeks left to help with this year’s annual book sale. Donations are low, but there is still time to clean out all your book shelves and share your love of books with someone else. Drop off donations (newer books only) at the Rollin Art Centre, inside the main door, under the staircase, in the big wooden box. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The book sale is on Friday, May 12 (6-9 p.m.) and Saturday, May 13 (9 a.m.-3 p.m.)

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Please join the Alberni District Historical Society for an interesting evening with writer Michael Layland. This event takes place at the A.V. Museum on Thursday, April 20, at 7 p.m. and is free and open to all. Layland will give a presentation on his latest book, A Perfect Eden: Encounters by Early Explorers of Vancouver Island. He will illustrate his talk with paintings, charts, maps and more. In this lovely coffee table book you will find many local connections, including the stories of Horne, Bamfield, Sproat, Stamp and Mayne.
