In recognition of April as poetry month, Abbotsford resident Emily Isaacson has released a new book, The Fleur-de-lis.  Written in French and English, it contains more than 800 poems. Emily served on the board of directors of the MAC Art Gallery for three years in the Fraser Valley and has served as natural health practitioner at the Xa:ytem Longhouse in Mission. She founded the Emily Isaacson Institute in 2005 for literature, arts and medicine. Absolute Style

The University of the Fraser Valley’s annual fashion show, Absolute Style, is taking place on Thursday, April 28. It will showcase works by students in the two-year fashion design diploma program. Pieces will range from evening gowns to men’s wear. Absolute Style takes place in the Envision Athletic Centre, 33844 King Rd., on the Abbotsford campus. Tickets are $10 for the 2:30 p.m. matinee and $18 for the 7 p.m. show. Car show

The BC Classic & Custom Car Show is taking over Tradex, 1190 Cornell St., from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1. The show runs Friday from 5-10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets range from $17 to $8. Dakona

Ryan McAllister is the former frontman of Vancouver’s Christian alternative rock group Dakona.
