The last week of October is absolutely packed with spooktacular events to keep your Halloween spirit in overdrive.
An outrageous mash-up of stereotypes from sci-fi movies, comic books and rock ‘n roll from every vintage, The Rocky Horror Show is on stage in Armstrong.
Choose from three live performances of this cult classic musical in the horticultural building at the IPE grounds Oct. 29, 30 and 31. Call the Ticket Seller at 250-549-SHOW (7469) for more details on the live show and movie package, which includes a midnight screening of the film on Halloween.
While on the subject of Halloween night, your options for being utterly terrorized are all around, starting with Caravan Farm Theatre’s Walk of Terror. This year’s walk in the woods will bring you within range of The Whistler – a ghost that travels by night – among other mysteries and oddities.
The walk starts at 7 p.m. with a concert by Jack Garton’s Demon Squadron starting at 8 p.m. Call the Ticket Seller for your tickets.
Don’t leave the chills all for one night as the Okanagan Science Centre’s Fear Factory and the O’Keefe Ranch Field of Screams are in operation throughout this week.
The science centre’s three-floor zombie factory churns out goosebumps and nightmares for years to come and is open tonight and Wednesday through to Nov. 1. Visit www.okscience.ca for more information.
O’Keefe Ranch is host to the Field of Screams in their two corn mazes, Tuesday through Thursday. Visit their website at www.okeeferanch.ca for more information.
For options with less screaming and more music, a couple of Vernon’s best known bands are on stage at different venues for All Hallows’ Eve, Friday.
If an 11-piece swing band is your groove, check out the Legendary Lake Monsters playing at the Japanese Cultural Society Hall starting at 8:30 p.m. For a Celtic inspired night with a reggae twist, Cod Gone Wild is on stage at the Paddlewheel Park Hall along with special guests Tasman Jude for their masquerade and costume ball starting at 8 p.m. Both events feature costume prizes and more and tickets are on sale through the Ticket Seller.
Looking ahead to what could be considered the calm serenity of November, get yourself ready for the municipal election Nov. 15. The Vernon Performing Arts Centre is hosting all-candidate forums for both the City of Vernon and the District of Coldstream. Questions will be presented both in written form and open mic. The Vernon forum is Tuesday, while the Coldstream forum is Thursday. Admission is free for each event, but donations are encouraged with proceeds going to the Performing Arts Centre society’s children’s theatre fund.
On Nov. 4, violinist Joan Blackman joins pianist Sarah Hagen for the second of four 2014/15 Morning Melodies concerts. Arrive at the Performing Arts Centre 10 a.m. for coffee, refreshments and a chance to chat with the musicians, followed by a 70-minute concert starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Marie Fleming Hall. Tickets are still available through the Ticket Seller by calling 549-7469.
And on Thursday, Nov. 6, Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre Company is on stage at the Performing Arts Centre with their warm and fuzzy production of Avenue Q starting at 7:30 p.m.
In one of the biggest theatre events of the year, puppets rub shoulders with humans in this Broadway musical just for adults. Utterly hysterical and occasionally PC, Avenue Q is the raunchy puppet show that beat out Wicked for best musical in 2004. Call the Ticket Seller, 250-549-7469, www.ticketseller.ca for your tickets.
